POMP AND PAGEANTRY AS THE ROYAL PROCESSION MAKES ITS WAY BACK TO BUCKINGHAM PALACE

CORONATION PROCESSION

With a wave and a smile, the newly crowned King Charles III left Westminster Abbey in the historic Gold State Coach, taking in the spectacular scenes around him.

His Majesty, wearing the Imperial State Crown and his Robe of Estate, was joined by Queen Camilla, who looked remarkably relaxed greeting the thousands of people lining the streets to cheer.

The eight-horse-drawn carriage, which was commissioned in 1760 and has played a role in every coronation since that of William IV in 1831, glided along to shouts of “God save the King.”

Following Their Majesties, the Prince and Princess of Wales travelled with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who chatted animatedly with one another throughout the journey.

But it was Louis’s interaction with the fans lining the streets that had everyone talking. From behind the glass window, he made his signature funny faces and was seemingly speaking directly to the onlookers. Lip readers have suggested that the little prince kept asking, “What are you screaming about?”

Throughout the 30-minute ride, all five members of the family waved enthusiastically at well-wishers, many of whom were carrying Hello!’s souvenir Union Jack flags.
