Sworn in for his second term, Donald Trump is supported by family, famous friends and former U.S. presidents
It was a day to remember in Washington, D.C., when Donald Trump was sworn in as 47th president of the United States, becoming the oldest person in history to take the pledge.
Surrounded by former presidents and tech titans, as well as his family, the 78-year-old business tycoon-turned-politician vowed that America “would be respected again all over the world” now that he was back in the job he’d lost from 2017 to 2021.
“I return to the presidency confident that we are at the start of a thrilling new era in nationhood,” declared Donald Trump. “A time of change is sweeping the country, and America has the chance to seize this opportunity like never before.”
Traditionally held on the Capitol building’s outdoor steps, the inauguration ceremony – which coincided with Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20 – was moved inside due to extremely cold weather. The Republican president swore his oath of office on a Bible held by his brother and a velvet-bound volume used at Abraham Lincoln’s inauguration in 1861.
