Eldest son Brooklyn's absence casts a shadow over the Beckhams' idyllic family holiday in the south of France

Even as they enjoyed a spectacular family summer holiday, cruising around the French Riviera in their £16m yacht, David and Victoria Beckham no doubt felt that their break in St Tropez had been tinged with sadness.

Their eldest son, Brooklyn, was not only absent from the gathering; he was thousands of miles away in upstate New York, renewing his wedding vows with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, in a lavish ceremony performed by her father, the billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz, and attended by her family.

The celebrations were held three years after Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 30, tied the knot in Florida's Palm Beach.
