The future king meets Steve Irwin's son and reveals his excitement about travelling to Brazil for climate summit

Wearing an ornate beaded necklace – a gift from Kleber Karipuna, the leader of the Karipuna people from Amapa, Brazil – the Prince of Wales showed his support for indigenous communities at an event convened by his Earthshot Prize and United for Wildlife organisations at St James’s Palace.

William addres sed env i ronmenta l innovators, community leaders and ministers, calling for “greater ambition and deeper collaboration” to tackle the global climate crisis ahead of the COP30 summit in Brazil, which comes days after the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro on 5 November.

His plea came during London Climate Action Week, when the Prince also attended an Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Leading with Impact session to showcase the winners and finalistsofhis£50m, decade-long environmental awards programme.

“I’ve always wanted to get to South America, particularly Brazil,” William said at the session. “So I’m very excited about going down there… I think the awards will be spectacular.”
