As Adele Parks returns with her latest novel, she tells us how divorce – and an unconventional second marriage – contributed to her huge success

This week, the writer from North Yorkshire, who has sold more than six million copies of her books and received an MBE for services to literature in 2022, returns to her leading character, Connie – now a midlife mum facing a dramatic family dilemma – in her 25th thriller, Our Beautiful Mess.

“If I hadn’t had Connie and her huge success, I wouldn’t be who I am,” Adele, 56, tells Ateh Jewel in the latest episode of HELLO!’s Second Act podcast.

This has given Adele time to reflect on the plot twists that have shaped her own life. Shortly after the huge success of her debut novel, when her son, Conrad, was ten months old, her first husband left her.
