A REVOLUTIONARY new drug may dramatically reduce levels of a deadly form of cholesterol — in a single dose.

Once thought to be untreatable, lipoprotein(a) is a type of cholesterol that isn’t detectable by routine tests and isn’t treatable with existing drugs, diet or exercise.

“[Lipoprotein(a)] is a major source of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality,” says Dr. Steven Nissen of the Cleveland Clinic. “We have never been able to treat lipoprotein(a) until now.”
