DRIVING INDIA'S GREEN MILES
The Machinist
|June 2025
In a candid conversation with Amit Shanbaug, Editor, ET Now Machinist, Devndra Chawla, CEO & MD of GreenCell Mobility, shares how the company is shaping India's sustainable transportation future and lays out the roadmap of how they are powering this green shift.
India’s mobility landscape is undergoing a quiet revolution. While the buzz around electric twoand three-wheelers and passenger cars grab headlines, it's electric buses that are slowly but surely redefining public transport. And leading this transformation is GreenCell Mobility—a company with a bold vision to make sustainable, safe, and passenger-first mass mobility a reality across India.
HARNESSING E-MOBILITY FOR INDIA'S NET ZERO GOALS
“India is making bold strides in combating climate change, and transportation is a crucial focus,” says Chawla. With nearly 72% of Indians depending on buses daily, electrifying this segment is critical for reducing pollution and achieving sustainable urban mobility.
Backed by Eversource Capital, GreenCell Mobility is building one of India's largest Electric Mobility-as-a-Service (E-MaaS) platforms. With a fleet of around 1,200 electric buses, 270+ fast chargers, and major investments in depots and maintenance facilities, the company is firmly aligned with India's Net Zero vision.Operating through two key verticals—B2G (GCC contracts) and B2C (under the NueGo brand)—GreenCell is setting a new benchmark for green mass transit. “We aren't just running buses; we're building an ecosystem,” Chawla adds.
SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY AT THE CORE
For GreenCell Mobility, technology and trust go hand in hand. Chawla emphasises, “At GreenCell, safety and sustainability are non-negotiable.”
