During this year’s SA Stud Book Elite Awards, Bonsmara breeders once again demonstrated why this red breed and its breeders are leading the pack. Through the use of rigorous, mandatory performance testing, Bonsmara breeders in South African continue to meet the demands of commercial breeders.
Diamond bulls
Every year, SA Stud Book recognises the top five proven Elite diamond bulls in the industry based on stringent criteria. Bonsmara SA made a clean sweep, securing all five spots: CEF 18-495 and CEF 18-520 of Zinabos Bonsmaras (Fourie Scheepers), KAN 17-60 of Anko Bonsmaras (André Höll), WAT 18-277 of Kruger Bonsmaras (Frikkie and Philip Kruger), and CRV 18-389 of Skatkis Bonsmaras (Chris Visser).
To earn Elite Diamond bull status, a bull must be active at the time of the awards, be an active SP (studbook proper) bull (the highest division within its breed), and not have received the award in previous years. Both the bull and its sire’s performance must be thoroughly proven through farm or central growth tests.
