A series of commissioned pens shows why David Broadwell is considered one of the most influential artisan pen makers ever.

It was one of the largest commissions of David Broadwell's nearly 25 years in pen making: two sets of 12 distinct fountain pens, one for the recipient, one for that recipient's close friend and associate, with the intention of commemorating astonishing milestones in the recipient's career. To accomplish it, Broadwell assembled a veritable who's who of partners. But before we get to the pens, we must explore the recipient.

John C. Maxwell is an author, speaker, and teaching pastor at Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and the founder of Maxwell Leadership, an organization that helps individuals and businesses reach their full leadership potential through “values-based leadership principles.” Since the 1970s, he has written over 90 books on leadership, communication, and business principles, an astonishing 12 of which have been million-copy New York Times bestsellers. Millions of individuals have been motivated by his books, his speaking engagements, or his in-person seminars. Additionally, Maxwell's nonprofits raise millions of dollars each year for charitable elements.

Andrew Manzano is Director of Video Production for Maxwell Leadership, but more than that, he is a close friend of Maxwell's and a creative thought partner. A yearly highlight for Maxwell Leadership is the International Maxwell Conference, which took place in Orlando, Florida, from August 24 to 26. Manzano wanted to cap that conference off with a special present for Maxwell. Knowing that Maxwell collects fountain pens, especially Montblanc Writers Editions, Manzano thought that a collection of custom fountain pens would make the perfect gift.
