Ghana's Gold Output to Rise by 600,000 Ounces
Offshore Africa
|September 2024
With the anticipated start-up of two monstrous gold mines in the country later this year, Ghana’s annual gold production will increase by about 600,000 ounces.
-

Ghana is due to commission its first large-scale green-field mine in more than a decade in November. The gold mine Cardinal Namdini is expected to produce an average of 358,000 ounces of gold per annum. The mine is owned by Cardinal resources, a unit of Shandong Gold. It obtained a license for the facility in 2020.
In addition, mid-year 2025, Newmont is expected to commission its massive gold mine located at Ahafo North in the Ahafo region of Ghana.
Africa’s top gold producer has seen a significant decline in output over the past decade due to low investment in exploration, stunting growth and lowering production.
