Making Miracles

IN 2020, PGA TOUR GOLFER CAMILO VILLEGAS AND HIS WIFE, Maria Ochoa, learned that their 17-month-old daughter, Mia, had been diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer.
-
The family spent the following months near Mia's side as she courageously battled the disease at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, but she died before her second birthday.
Although her time was short, her parents are continuing her legacy. They created Mia's Miracles, a charitable foundation whose mission is "to provide small blessings with large impacts, bringing smiles and positivity to children and families facing challenging circumstances." The organization aims to help all children and families receive access to reliable resources and a supportive network that leads to a hopeful future.
"When we were in the hospital with Mia, we experienced not only what we went through but also saw the challenges most families face when a child is sick," said Villegas. "We quickly realized that we were blessed with our amazing support system and financial stability—but we know that isn't the case for most families. We realized the best way for us to honor our daughter was to do everything we could to help those families in need, to bring a smile to a child and relief to a caregiver."
To fulfill that vision, Mia's Miracles partners with several project champions. It extends its programs and support to a variety of related organizations and medical facilities, including Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Each is a dedicated shareholder in the foundation's mission.
