Review: Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2.8GD VX-R

It’s been 14 years since the previousgeneration Land Cruiser Prado was launched in South Africa, and to say that the fifth generation has been eagerly anticipated is an understatement.

Since its inception 34 years ago, the Prado has been a more affordable choice for those who didn’t aspire to the luxurious appointments of the range-topping Land Cruiser, but also didn’t want to forgo all the comforts, like the more utilitarian 70 Series.

WHAT’S NEW ON THIS MODEL?

The Land Cruiser Prado now makes use of a bulkier, squared-off appearance inspired by its predecessors. Up front, Toyota lettering sits central on a smaller grille, with slimline LED headlamps on the TX and VX-R grades. The First Edition models make exclusive use of round headlamps like classic Land Cruisers.

The Unseen Protector

The belief in the Unseen Protector or Unseen Shepherd endured for around 600 years, from the 13th century up until the 19th century. The farmer or his wife would provide a bowl of fresh cream and gruel to appease a spirit, whose blessing was imperative for a good summer harvest and animal health and fertility.
