John Deere adds its next generation 4R series boom sprayers

John Deere launched its new 430R and 440R self-propelled boom sprayers for the South African market at Nampo recently, combining higher productivity, smarter automation and advanced See & Spray technology designed to reduce chemical use and improve operational efficiency.
The new machines, built at John Deere's Catalão factory in Brazil, represent a complete redesign from the chassis up, Dave Mulder, John Deere product marketing manager for sprayers and application equipment, said during a media briefing at Nampo Bothaville.
At the heart of the redesign is a stronger chassis, a new suspension system, and an entirely new boom structure intended to improve boom stability, especially at higher operating speeds and when fitted with See & Spray technology.
"Stability becomes critical when cameras are identifying weeds at speeds of up to 25km/h," Mulder explained.
The 430R features a 3 000 tank, while the 440R offers 4000l capacity.
The new boom configuration is available in widths of 27m, 30m, 36m and 40m, with the 36m boom designed specifically to accommodate John Deere's See & Spray Gen 2 system.
FASTER FILLING, SIMPLER OPERATION
One of the most noticeable upgrades is the new Solution Command system, which automates much of the sprayer's plumbing and rinsing process.
Where operators previously had to manually switch valves between filling, spraying and rinsing functions, the new system uses electrically controlled valves activated at the push of a button.
According to Mulder, the automation reduces the risk of operator error during crop changeovers and tank clean-outs.
John Deere has also introduced a Premium Solution Command option, which adds an extra side-fill pump to accelerate loading times. Mulder claims filling times can be reduced by as much as 50% with this option, depending on the farm's tender setup.

More than space: designing pig housing systems for the future
As South Africa's pig industry prepares for the transition away from gestation crates, producers will need to rethink far more than floor space. Research shows that the success of group housing depends on how housing design, feeding systems, ventilation, stocking density and day-to-day management work together to support both welfare and productivity.
