Agri workers shine at Western Cape awards

Lindie-Alet van Staden, a garden and olive orchard manager at L’Ormarins Wine Estate in Franschhoek, was crowned as the Western Cape Prestige Agri-Worker of 2024 at a gala event recently held near Paarl.
She won vouchers, a cash prize, an international study trip worth R80 000 to the Netherlands and Germany, and has become a member of the Western Cape Prestige Agri-Workers Forum, which regularly meets with Western Cape Minister of Agriculture Dr Ivan Meyer to advise him on matters impacting the lives of agricultural workers.
The competition, which started out in the Hex River Valley with 36 entries in two categories, has grown to 1 233 entries from 15 regions across the Western Cape, over 11 categories this year.
The Garden Route won the award for the best performing region. From this area, Annita Maqashalala won the Middle Management category.
