Cloud has been going through its own set of struggles recently. Would AI be that straw on its back that guzzles up what's left?

- Pratima H

It's not you, it's not me, it's Al: The Public Cloud Break-up

Who could have ever thought that the ODI would, one day - pun intended, replace Test Cricket? But then not many CIOs would have imagined that something called Cloud would make them say goodbye to selfowned and managed IT infrastructure! And while IT teams across all kinds of enterprises were settling into this new format, AI dashed in like a bolt of lightningthe T20 of technology playground. Since T20, the game, and the way it's won, changed completely.

Yesteryear's skills, speed and scoring can feel out of place on this extremely fast pitch. But you still need a bat and a ball to play it, right? The answer is more of a 'curve ball' than a Cowcorner. On one hand, as enterprises embrace more and more AI, they can use every ounce of efficiency and infrastructure agility that they can squeeze out of the Cloud format. On the other hand, new AI workloads could mean the need for more data control, huge data volumes and high stakes for security- all that translating into a return to good-old on-premise IT.

So which way does the ball swing? Let’s ask around.

Legacy complexity is a big reason for the AI pilot quicksand. Most pilots stall, not because the model is weak, but because the surrounding environment is not ready to operationalise it. Let's get a closer look at this AI dead-end.
