A peek into the evolution of commercial bathroom design
-
There's no harder working room than the bathroom, whether it's in a residential setting or the world's largest mall. As commercial spaces evolve to meet the ever-changing demands of users, bathrooms remain a key component in enhancing experiences and reinforcing brand identities. From restaurants to workplaces, hotels, and public spaces, the role of the bathroom has transformed from a simply functional space to statement-making sensations, offering opportunities for creativity, sustainability, and technological innovation. Here, some of the region's top designers show how they create wash zone wow-factor across each of the key sectors.
F&BIt's no secret that social media has become influential in shaping the interior design trends within the world of F&B, and bathrooms are certainly no exception. Fady Chams, managing director at Prospect Design International, emphasises that bathrooms play a crucial role in creating memorable dining experiences. "Bathrooms are another touch point that allows us to build on the restaurant's story and immerse guests even further," says Chams. Notably, well-designed bathrooms often become conversation starters, enhancing guest engagement and creating moments of awe.
Modern F&B bathrooms are far from utilitarian. Chams notes that these spaces are now designed with intricate details, offering striking aesthetics and unique features that double as Instagram-worthy spots. "Eye-catching mirrors, bold tiles, ambient lighting, and artistic accents" are some of the elements transforming bathrooms into memorable aspects of dining experiences. Sara Jamil, interior designer at Roar, adds that sustainable and stylish features, such as water-saving fixtures and eco-friendly materials, are increasingly popular.
