Securing shackles in permanent moorings

Large shackles used as part of permanent moorings are normally secured against loosening by seizing wire or cable ties. Sometimes, they're welded right up.

However, I've had the wrong kind of wire corrode away and the boat go walkies (fortunately without damage!); I don't entirely trust the tiny plastic ratchets in cable ties; and a welded shackle can't be dismantled easily.

So for 40 years, I've been using a method that I've never seen anywhere else.
