ELECTRIC SQWD!

- KRANTI SAMBHAV

TATA HARRIER EV

At times, it's headline-chasing, but occasionally, it's genuine curiosity.

My question was the latter: “When are we going to see an electric Nano?” I had asked this during the Tiago EV media drive while chatting with Tata Motors’ top leadership. The answer I got was technical and grounded: battery cost still forms a significant portion of any EV’s price, and going below the Tiago EV while keeping it affordable remains difficult. I was told expansion has to happen from both ends of the portfolio.

imageThat answered not only the question I asked but also the one I hadn't. The next big step in Tata’s electric journey was clearly the Harrier.ev, and now, it’s finally here. After months of spy shots, unveilings, and camouflaged prototypes, we're driving the production model. Priced at ₹28.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec variant, this is now Tata’s most premium electric offering yet.

In the previous issue, we covered the launch and took it to a purpose-built off-road track, where the Harrier.ev left us impressed. The story was nearly complete—except for real-world road impressions and a proper range test. That's what this review focuses on: Is it comfortable in Delhi-NCR traffic? Capable on the open highway? What numbers does it deliver—and who should consider buying it? Let’s find out.

The day began early. Our shoot location was next to Surajkund ground in Faridabad. Set in open ground surrounded by trees, stray dogs, and a few curious monkeys, this was a perfectly apt backdrop—electric vehicle, greenery, and nature, in full-on harmony.
