Relative evolution

The other day I got a chance to check out the Harley-Davidson X440 T - a different iteration of the existing roadster that fell short of receiving a warm reception when it came out in India a couple of years ago. The T was on the receiving end of a lot of flak on the Overdrive social media handles since its launch last December too, and this got me thinking, how things have changed for Harley, not only as a brand in terms of growth and adapting to modern times, but the evolution of how the brand is now perceived.

For many years, Harley-Davidson was motorcycling's loud uncle at the family gathering: lots of chrome, slow-moving, but very clear about how everyone had better adjust. Basic bikes like those, acres of chrome trim, and that potato-potato-knocking V-twin engine thump are all that mattered. And harp on this, it was good. For decades and decades to come.
