Our route begins at the Tankwa Padstal on the R355 gravel road between Ceres and Calvinia. It took you three hours to travel from Cape Town to here, and by this time, you’re probably starving. Fortunately, the establishment serves delicious meals, and we recommend considering the roosterkoek burgers with chips – the UFO burger (R160) we had was quite good.

Now take the gravel road that runs behind the farm stall in the direction of Sutherland. It’s a road that’s less used, so do first inquire at the farm stall whether it’s currently passable. During our visit, it had been damaged by heavy rain, but our convoy of Kia Seltos SUVs managed to get through, albeit with some difficulty here and there.
