While the notion of bike having auto gearboxes might seem as alien as your mates paying for beer all night, Yamaha is one of a number of brands now pioneering such technology, finding it a home on a few of its MT models.

Following in the footsteps of the MT-09, the new MT-07 facilitates the option, which sees dual solenoid-powered motors work in tandem to change gear and actuate the clutch on your behalf. The tech is relatively straightforward, utilising a standalone ECU to function and adding just under three kilos to the mass of the motorcycle. Better still, as advanced and hard-hitting as the tech might seem, it'll prove gentle on your wallet... as the Y-AMT version of the '07 costs just £350 more. And as an added bonus, you'll also bag cruise control too – which isn't an option on the base model.
