SG Green Logistics has turned to Montra Electric Rhino EV tractor-trailer for hauling steel and cement in its pursuit of decarbonisation and has aggressive plans to expand EV trucking by going net zero on carbon emission, the first in India to deploy 100 units of heavy-duty EV trucks, writes Richa Tyagi.

In an era where sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity, SG Green Logistics Pvt.Ltd. has acted upon with a sense of urgency. It is rapidly transforming heavy cargo transportation across its India operations. Spearheaded by Utkarsh Jain, Managing Director, a third-generation entrepreneur from North Eastern Carrying Corporation Ltd., the company has made the IPLTech Electric's Rhino EV truck its go-to solution. Aptly so, as steel and cement are known to be amongst the most carbon-intensive sectors. “The idea came during discussions with our partners in the steel and cement industry, who were increasingly conscious of ESG standards,” Jain recalls. “We saw a clear opportunity to electrify the supply chain by offering a green logistics solution,” he quipped.

SG Green Logistics found a like-minded partner in Montra Electric, a Murugappa Group engineering firm acquired through its clean mobility arm, TI Clean Mobility. The procurement and deployment of Rhino tractor-trailer, engineered for industrial performance, fit the bill. What began as a pilot quickly evolved into a full-fledged operations model. “Montra Electric conducted real-world trials on our behalf with live loads. The Rhino trucks exceeded expectations, proving they could match and often outperform ICE vehicles in tonnage and efficiency,” Jain informed.
