Sitting as we are on the cusp of the Golf GTI's 50th birthday, we thought it would be fun to travel back a little in time to take in perhaps its most radical concept offshoot: the GTI W12-650. In 2007, not long after the GTI had celebrated its 30th anniversary, VW’s engineers were given just two months to knock together something to wow the crowds at that year’s Wörthersee show – a gathering of VW enthusiasts with a particular focus on showcasing limited-edition and high-performance models.
