Fully self-driving taxis from US firm Waymo will take to the UK's roads next year as part of a new government-backed pilot scheme that aims to accelerate the rollout of driverless technology across the country.

The American ridehailing service will begin its trials in London using a fleet of specially adapted Jaguar I-Pace SUVs. Waymo already runs driverless taxi services in six US states and has recently expanded into Japan, and its autonomous cars have now driven more than 100 million miles.
