The world’s toughest test of man and machine returned to Saudi Arabia for the fifth time. This year, the ASO decided to introduce 48-hour stages during the rally, which would go through unknown sections. Racing from AlUla to Yanbu, the competitors had to cover 7,883km consisting of 4,727km timed specials.
Rally legend Carlos Sainz clinched his fourth win at Dakar, this one with the Audi Sport team, marking the German team’s first-ever victory at the event. This also marked the first victory for a car running an electrified powertrain as the Audi RS Q e-tron uses electric motors as the main drive units, with a high-voltage battery and a combustion engine, heralding a new chapter for electrified powertrains in the highest echelons of motorsport.
