BRIDGING THE EV-SKILLED WORKFORCE GAP
Auto Components India
|August 2024
India’s fast-growing EV sector needs to bridge skill set gaps to realise its 2030 goal, writes Richa Tyagi.
As India drives forward in its journey toward 30 per cent electrification by 2030, the Electric Vehicle (EV) sector has emerged as a key pillar in the country’s sustainable transportation strategy. However, one of the significant challenges hindering this progress is the skill gap in the workforce. For the EV industry to flourish and meet ambitious targets, it is essential to address these gaps strategically. Vinod Aggarwal, President of SIAM and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, VE Commercial Vehicles, said, “Our goal is not only to create a skilled workforce but to empower individuals to navigate the dynamic and evolving auto technology landscape. Together, we can charge ahead for a brighter, greener, and healthier future.”
At SIAM, initiatives include the workshop under its Vidyutikiran (Electrification) initiative, themed “Charging Ahead – Empowering an EVReady Workforce in India’s Automobile Sector”. The workshop focused on identifying and addressing the skill gap and had a report launched on the sidelines. Jointly prepared by SIAM and Deloitte: ‘SIAM EV Talent Landscape in India: Bridging the Skill Gap for 2030’. The report provides a blueprint for meeting the industry’s evolving skill demands by 2030, and the technological competencies required to drive and foster innovations and excellence in the EV ecosystem.
