The Government of India wants a permanent agency to expedite the publication of standards and development of test facilities in parallel,
In the realm of automotive innovation, the development of improved safety critical parts relies heavily on standardised regulations. These standards serve as the bedrock upon which the industry builds advanced technologies, ensuring both safety and performance. Recognising this pivotal role, the Ministry of Surface Transport (MOST) established the Automotive Industry Standards Committee (AISC) in 1997. This permanent committee, detailed in order No. RT-11028/11/97MVL, is tasked with formulating and approving standards crucial for automotive advancements.
Standardising Automated Command Steering Functions (ACSF)
In its 66th meeting on July 14th, 2021, the AISC embarked on formulating an Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) specifically addressing Automated Command Steering Functions (ACSF). ACSF refers to systems designed to control the lateral and longitudinal movement of motor vehicles, particularly under autonomous driving conditions. These functions, integrated into vehicles of categories M, N, and T, offer significant benefits, particularly in autonomous driving scenarios.
Defining Automated Command Steering Functions
ACSF, a subset of Advanced Driver Assistance Steering Systems (ADAS), entails various functionalities aimed at augmenting driver control and vehicle manoeuvrability. These functions range from lane guidance to Emergency Steering Functions (ESF), each designed to enhance vehicle safety and performance. ACSF operates within the broader framework of ADAS, ensuring that while the system assists the driver, the driver retains primary control over the vehicle.
