Six Variations on a Theme

Drawn from Practice II, on view at Experimenter's Ballygunge Place space in Kolkata from April 14th to June 30th, underscored the fundamental importance of drawing to artistic practices. Essential and generative, the artists in the show demonstrated how the act of drawing emerges from and has an impact on cultural, social, and political contexts and lies at the heart of a complex, inter-connected web of ideas and domains. Of special significance was how each artist explored the act of mark-making and in doing so recognized, articulated, and, ultimately, gave meaning to the nature and function of drawing.
