Bridge House designed by Wallmakers is an innovative retreat - a habitable suspension structure nestled among the trees that spans a natural gorge in Karjat, Maharashtra, India. The project ransforms site constraints into an innovative, low impact home that blends vernacular materials, structural ingenuity, and ecological sensitivity.

Set against the rugged hills of Karjat, Bridge House by Wallmakers emerges from a site shaped as much by nature as by constraint. A TATA spillway stream slices through the land, carving a dramatic seven metre deep gorge that divides the plot into two disconnected parcels. From the outset, the project presented a series of formidable challenges. The two sides had to be joined, yet no foundation could be placed within the hundred foot spillway buffer. The structure had to remain accessible below, allowing heavy machinery to pass for periodic cleaning of the streams.
