The Good Dog Company's dog daycare centre and boarding in Gurgaon showcases a journey from pawprints to blueprints.
-
Architecture has long shaped how we live, but most often, it is built only for us humans. At The Good Dog Company in Gurgaon, the environment isn't just human-centric, but shared, shaped and softened for the species that will call it home. Spanning 4,500 square feet, it is an enrichment daycare centre and boarding facility for dogs.
The client, a professional dog trainer, had a clear brief from the outset: to craft a space that understood how dogs move and perceive their environment, supported the centre's operations, and remained open enough for dogs to frolic freely and dig to their hearts' content. This translated spatially into a horizontally layered plan, where the zoning strategy was led by prioritising visibility, sensory variety, and freedom of movement.
A DOG'S EYE VIEWDogs are dichromatic, perceiving the world primarily in shades of blue and yellow. Since the design needed to understand their point of view (literally), the design was tailored to their visual experience.
FRAGMENTED, BUT FLUID
The site layout followed a more fragmented design that fosters a sense of exploration. By zoning the area into a series of interlinked indoor-outdoor spaces, a natural flow was created. The segmentation also makes it easier for both dogs and humans to navigate the space without feeling overwhelmed, creating a more harmonious balance between functionality and play. The zoning is designed in a way that more private, human-centric spaces are located near the entrance, while pet-centric areas are gradually introduced as you move inward.

MUSING MUSEUMS
A few months back, when I was in Budapest, I walked into a building that left me awestruck. The inquisitive me went on to explore, and I discovered that it was a museum with pixels on the exterior and that the curved structure of the building dipped underground to form the interiors, even as the garden I was walking on was the green roof of the building that interjected at street level! Woah! I quickly took some pictures and went on to research this building, and the more I read about it, the more I fell in love with it. And then of course I had to share it with you all!
