High Pressure Compact laminates are making a compelling case in the architecture and exterior spaces as architects are increasingly using them to strike the balance between aesthetics and functionality.
-
Modern buildings demand materials that can stand up to nature’s harshest elements without compromising on style. High-pressure laminate (HPL) exterior panels are crafted precisely for this purpose— combining durability, weather resistance, and aesthetic appeal to create a resilient exterior solution. Designed with innovative technology, these panels offer powerful protection against sun, rain, and temperature extremes, making them an ideal choice for structures in diverse climates. HPL panels are designed to provide the strength and reliability to safeguard buildings while maintaining their visual charm. To do this, during manufacturing, layers of kraft paper are saturated with resins and pressed under intense heat and pressure. This process results in a robust, dense material that can withstand the elements without sacrificing appearance. A market leader in this segment, Greenlam Exterior Clads, enhanced with proprietary treatments and GLE technology, ensures durability by resisting moisture, UV rays, and temperature changes. Greenlam Clads offer fire retardancy and long-term weather protection, making them ideal for exterior applications. Additionally, they come with superior grade European exterior decor paper, sourced strategically which ensures not only aesthetic appeal but also the ability to offer exclusive 12-year product warranty to our customers” shares Parul Mittal, Director, Greenlam Industries Limited. Seema Puri-Mullan, Principal Architect & Founding Partner, SEZA Architects & Interior Designers shares, “For architecture, we are always looking for new and different materials especially to add textures and colours, in our projects. We use Clads because you can use them for different spaces and areas.”

MUSING MUSEUMS
A few months back, when I was in Budapest, I walked into a building that left me awestruck. The inquisitive me went on to explore, and I discovered that it was a museum with pixels on the exterior and that the curved structure of the building dipped underground to form the interiors, even as the garden I was walking on was the green roof of the building that interjected at street level! Woah! I quickly took some pictures and went on to research this building, and the more I read about it, the more I fell in love with it. And then of course I had to share it with you all!
