THE MF HUSAIN MUSEUM OPENS IN DOHA - DESIGNED BY AD100 MARTAND KHOSLA, WHO RESPONDS TO AN ARTWORK MADE BY THE LATE ARTIST YEARS AGO.

Unfolding across over 32,000 square feet, Qatar Foundation's Lawh Wa Qalam: MF Husain Museum in Doha is the world's first and largest institution celebrating the artistic legacy of polymath Maqbool Fida Husain.

Opening its doors on 28 November, it is home to a remarkable collection that spans from the 1950s to the artist's passing in 2011. It serves as a sanctuary, preserving Husain's priceless oeuvre: his paintings, films, photographs and installations.

There's a fascinating origin story: its design responds to an artwork the late artist made years ago, envisioning what his museum might look like one day. The artwork, featuring an indigo-hued house and a white tower, is deeply evocative. "I had a series of imaginary conversations with the artist, the sketch, and my own readings of his life and works," says architect Martand Khosla. "The one that resonated with me was the vast expanse of the world the sketch captured. I saw tiles from central Asia, multistoreyed mud buildings of Yemen, tents from the desert and periscopes."
