Possible poultry shows on the horizon
The Country Smallholder

Grant Brereton asks Jon Grubb Chair of The Poultry Club what is happening
-
Q. Jon, what are yours and the PC's feelings in light of the latest DEFRA updates on shows?
A. We are encouraged by DEFRA'S decision to introduce the Specific Licence system. It shows that the concerns of the fancy have been heard and taken seriously. There are still practical details to work through, and we will need to see how effective the process proves in practice, but overall it is a very positive step. We are cautiously optimistic and supportive of societies who wish to apply.
Q. What do you think was the turning point, and please inform readers what efforts the PC have made to bring back our shows?
A. I don't think there was a single turning point. Change has come about through steady, collective pressure from The Poultry Club and the wider fancy over a long period. We have kept the case alive with DEFRA, provided evidence, and demonstrated that shows can be run safely. No one individual or group can claim credit — it has been a real team effort, and it proves what we can achieve when we work together.
