Growing confidence and skills at the barn starts with safety, maturity, and hands-on experience-learn how to know when your young rider is ready for more freedom.
As your child spends more and more time at the barn, they'll become more familiar with the rules, expectations, and processes that go along with horses and riding.
Knowing when they're ready for more independence around horses depends on many factors. In my 10 years as the owner and teacher of my lesson barn, I've encountered kids of all ages and phases—both in life and with horses. Consider my advice when deciding to give your child more freedom at the barn and around horses.
