Finding 'the one'

It's time for new beginnings in Tessa Waugh's circle, as a friend finds a new steed with witchy approval and son Alec casts off his L-plates, sparking memories of her rockstar driving instructor

FOR many of us, buying a horse is not an enjoyable process. I bumped into a friend, who has been looking for a while, in our local country shop. She was in her jodhpurs. "Just been to try a horse with Jack," (our friendly local horse dealer) she explained.

A couple of days later, I was in the Coop and there was the friend, Rachel, again. We convened near the chilled meat.

"Any news on horses?" I asked.

"I bought the one I tried on Monday," she reported. "We're collecting him tomorrow."
