A tribute to The Queen's stud groom and manager, who's enjoyed a rich and varied equestrian career

TERRY PENDRY
THE first time Terry Pendry was offered the T job as stud groom and manager to Her Majesty The Queen at Windsor Castle, he turned it down. At the time, he was four years away from securing a military pension and decided it wouldn't be fair on his wife Sue, and two young children, to lose that security should anything happen to him. Four years later, the Crown Equerry Sir John Miller again offered him the role, and this time Terry accepted. There began nearly three decades of working alongside The late Queen, from 1994 until her death last year.
"I served Her Majesty for over 20 years in the Household Cavalry and 28 years directly in the Royal Household," said Terry. "It's been my privilege, honour and duty to serve such a wonderful lady and family. I wouldn't have changed it for the world; I'd do it all again."
