RISING TO THE CHALLENGE

The Cape Bird Club is marking its 75th anniversary in 2023 and, as part of its celebration, we have collaborated with the City of Cape Town (represented by Cliff Dorse, one of the area’s most skilful birders) to run a birding challenge during the year.

We have also enlisted the help of Henk Nel at BirdLasser, who has provided us with his easy-to-use and accurate listing platform for our members (and anyone else who wishes to participate) to log species within the boundaries of the city. These boundaries run broadly from Cape Point in the south, along the western coastline to just north of Koeberg power station, east across the strandveld and renosterveld of Atlantis and Mamre, through the wheatfields of Philadelphia, across the winelands of Somerset West and into the fynbos foothills of the Hottentots Hollands mountains.
