Look out for these new food crazes that will help you to be healthier in 2020

If you’re only just embracing quinoa and are still ploughing through 101 ways to eat an avocado, it’s time to catch-up. Along with the start of a new decade comes a load of new food trends to try. Here’s what the nutritional experts predict we’ll be putting on our plate in the year ahead.
The algae revolution
Get ready to see so much more of algae oil, which comes directly from algae and is a rich-source of omega 3 fats. ‘It’s vegan-friendly, sustainable, and has the added benefit of far fewer contaminants such as such as the toxic compounds PCBs, in comparison to fish oil,’ says nutritionist Lily Soutter.
COOK WITH IT
Thrive’s Algae Oil, £20.70, biovea.net, has 75% less saturated fat than olive oil.
Peace in a cup
The latest trend for all things CBD continues and the newest way to get a hit of hemp is in your drink. Try Vita Coco's sparkling coconut water infused with CBD (3pk, £10, ukshop.vitacoco.com), or Pukka Herb’s Peace Tea, made with hemp leaf (£2.99, Tesco). This variety of the cannabis Sativa plant –without the psychoactive properties – acts on the body’s cannabinoid receptors and happiness-linked serotonin responses to relieve stress and support a joyful outlook.
Wonderberries
There’s a new super berry in town! ‘The haskap has three times more antioxidants and eight times more anthocyanins than blueberries. They help maintain heart and cognitive health and add a youthful glow,’ says Dr. Evie Kemp*.
