Woman's Era

Touching the basics: on grandparents, parents and grand-love.

“Two of the most satisfying experiences in life must be those of being a grandchild or a grandparent,” someone rightly said.
I do not have that home now, but the smell of fresh basil tea in any corner on this Earth still takes me to that home, the home of my grandparents.
I lost them eons ago. I wrote several memoirs inked in red to show my indebtedness for getting those wonderful human beings – my grandparents.
Today, when my granddaughter – our bouquet of joy – sings a soulful symphony of ‘Nani’, I cannot thank desting enough!
Blessed are those who are surrounded by these invaluable treasure called grandparents.
The family fabric will never fray if the basic thread is woven with their tensile strength. Apart from their involvement as family head their focused attention towards their grandchildren is an invaluable asset. It enhances the overall development and personality of these little buds.
It’s a very special bond. Their togetherness, loving hugs and tender kisses with a bit of ‘spoiling’ – all go a long way in managing the curious minds. Especially in their formative years, the elderly wisdom comes as a huge dividend.
The grand love builds many beautiful stories in every home giving a sweet taste, but is certainly not untouched by some fragmented incidents where some deeper insight is required to sustain the happiness of two generations: between grandparents and parents. It is here they need to occupy - a sofa shaped like an S for a healthy tete-a-tete because the grand love is the cynosure of the eyes of both.
The other day a friend lamented that her son and his wife contemplate to have their first child after four years. She was disappointed because she would not be able to enjoy the role of a grandmother before she crossed 65 and that would be late!
