All eyes are on Meghan to make it go away
-
When the Duchess of Sussex’s father pulled out of her wedding amid shocking revelations that he’d colluded with paparazzi, a devastated Meghan and her groom Prince Harry thought the situation couldn’t possibly get any worse.
But three months on, the former actress has found herself at the forefront of one of the worst scandals to hit the British monarchy in decades – and the Queen is not amused!
With Thomas Markle continuing to speak out against his daughter and the royal family, the palace’s handling of the sad affair is coming under immense criticism. Now Woman’s Day can reveal that pressure is mounting, with high-ranking aides summoning Meghan to urgent crisis talks.
“Everyone at the palace is finally facing up to the fact they’ve handled the whole Thomas Markle debacle very badly,” a royal insider reveals.
“They’d all just been hoping that by ignoring him, he’d eventually go away. But he’s showing no signs of walking away quietly and it’s clear now that only Meghan can fix this mess. All eyes are on her and Harry because the situation cannot be allowed to continue as it is. It’s a complete disaster.”
In his latest interview with a British newspaper, Meghan’s father revealed details of an alleged heated phone call with Harry just days before the historic May 19 wedding, while he was in hospital. Though Thomas, 74, readily admits he was wrong to pose for photographers, he described the prince’s timing of the call as “rude” given his ill health.
“There is a time and a place to say what he said, but not when I’m lying in hospital after a heart attack,” he said, before claiming he was so angry, he hung up on his son-in-law.
