‘My Secret To Looking Young? I'm A Fashion Victim!'

Singer Lulu, 70, who lives in London, shares her earliest musical memories and how her grandchildren are taking after her
What’s your earliest memory of singing?
Oh blimey, this is a bit foggy, but certainly, my earliest memory is when I was at school and very, very young, the older girls used to make me sing in the playground. Some of the girls my age would get annoyed because I was being made a fuss of. And then I remember singing while sat on my father’s shoulders because I was so little.
Did you ever imagine you’d still be touring in your seventies?
I think age is really funny. When I was young I always used to say I hope I go on and on performing – and I am!
How often do you get to see your grandchildren?
Well, they’re coming to stay for a few weeks as they’re moving to the country, away from town, but they go to school quite near me. There’ll be chaos, but I’m looking forward to it. When my grandchildren ring the bell, it’s like I’m a very young girl going on a date with a guy she’s had a crush on. I just have that excited feeling. That’s pretty cool.
Do you see signs of them being able to sing yet?
