As Strictly returns to our televisions, we take a look back at some of the prima ballerinas career highlights!

Darcey's Strictly A Dame!

Dancing royalty Darcey Bussell stunned us all at the Strictly Come Dancing 2018 opening when she glided out in that beautiful pink frock! And it was all for a very special occasion. After a phenomenal career and a string of honours, Darcey Bussell has officially been named a Dame!

And rightfully so. Considered the most inspiring ballerina of her generation, Dame Darcey’s exceptional technique has wowed professionals since she first danced on the prestigious stage of the Royal Ballet School at the age of 13.

Interestingly, ballet wasn’t Darcey’s first choice, though. “I did ballet from the age of five, but what I loved was my gymnastics. I kept the ballet going because of the gymnastics, then found I was going to be too tall.”

After various student performances, Darcey’s long lines and strong point caught the eye of the Royal Ballet’s principal choreographer, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, who kick-started her breathtaking career by casting her as the leading role in The Prince of the Pagodas in 1988.
