The Emdoneni Cat Project has operated for almost 25 years, rescuing, rehabilitating, rewilding and releasing wild cats back into nature.

The project, situated on a small game farm in Hluhluwe, iMfolozi Game Reserve, was initiated 1994 by Ida Nel, a lover of wild cats - driven by her desire to fight the threat of endangerment she took in the project’s first rescues - three Cheetahs named Nandi, Jabu and Tau. The project has filed for registration as a non-profit organisation, along with a name change to Zululand Cat Conservation; it also holds Threatened or Protected Species (TOPS), Commercial Exhibition and Game Park permits issued by Ezimvelo KZN Wildlife.
