The folks over at Land Rover were kind enough to give us a brand new Land Rover Explore smartphone to test out for a while, and it definitely lives up to its name: it’s made for the outdoors.
It may be heavier than other smartphones on the market, but that’s because it’s as tough as they come. Its Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen won’t crack from drops of up to 1.8m high. It’s true. I tested it.
Land Rover also claims the phone can work in temperature extremes ranging between -30C to 65C, temperatures at which most electronics, including cameras, tend to bug out. It’s IP68rated, meaning it can be submerged in water 1.5m deep for up to 30 minutes, and the manufacturer, Bullitt Group, has also gone the extra mile to make it impervious to vibration and salt mist.
