Although the jury is still out on the ICC’s proposal for a tournament the value of a World Cup every year, it has done one right thing in doing away with the boundary count to decide the winner of a tournament. But like most things, it would seem that it is a move made after the horse has bolted from the stables and cricket has been poorer for it.

There are two ways to look at the move to scrap the boundary count as one of the ways to decide the winner of a World Cup in the scenario as the one presented during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

With England and New Zealand tied on runs in the course of the match and in the Super Over that followed thereafter, the only way to break the deadlock was through this scarcely known rule about deciding the winner based on which team scored the most boundaries.
