One of the possible reasons Rishabh Pant has found his initiation into international cricket less than exhilarating is due to the fact that he does not have a hands-on mentor, the veritable senior player in the squad. With Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the Indian selectors continuing to play dodge ball, that is not likely to change any time soon.

While there were reports that Dhoni could retire at the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England in July, none was in the offing. But if Dhoni is still in contention as a player, past reputation notwithstanding, he cannot afford to keep away from the game.
