Something is amiss in cricket at the moment. While Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan was banned recently for not reporting approach, how much can the International Cricket Council (ICC) do when former cricketers such as Pakistan’s speedster, Shoaib Akhtar, allege that match fixing was rampant during their time?

Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya became a high profile former cricketer who was sanctioned by the ICC for allegedly failing to cooperation in a corruption investigation. Shakib is a current cricketer and the impact is immediate on the national team as well as the Twenty20 leagues he plays for, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) which should have come under the radar for the very fact that the ICC had imposed the ban for one of the reports of approaches coming from the IPL.
