John Fallon is a Celtic great who played his part in the club’s golden era

- Tony Connelly

Faithful Through And Through

LISBON Lion John Fallon is a Celtic man through and through. He spent the majority of his playing career with his beloved Hoops, while he continues to follow the team faithfully, cheering them on both home and away.

He spent 14 years with the club after joining in 1958, and he made a total of 185 appearances, and was always an important figure throughout that period until he left for Motherwell in 1972.

Among his many highlights, he was in goal when Celtic won the Scottish Cup in 1965 – the first trophy under Jock Stein – he won both domestic cups in the 1968/69 season, while he was outstanding in the League Cup final success over St Johnstone in October 1969. He was a substitute at the European Cup in Lisbon while he was also between the sticks when Celtic beat Real Madrid in June ’67 at the Bernabeu Stadium for Alfredo Di Stefano’s testimonial.

The Celtic View caught up with the Celtic legend for the first issue of the new season…
