With the right results this year, Josephine Giard targets European football with Celtic next season

AFTER spending four seasons at German side FSV Gutersloh, Josephine Giard moved to Paradise in the summer of last year.

Signed originally as a striker, Hoops boss Eddie Wolecki Black has since moved the now 23-year-old into a more natural No.10 midfield role, and she’s loving her time on the pitch.

Despite a 4-0 League Cup defeat to Glasgow City last month, the Celtic Women’s side have started this year’s campaign well, and now face the reigning champions again in the league this week. With the right domestic results, Giard hopes to climb the table to secure a spot in the Champions League next season.

Ahead of this weekend’s fixture, the Celtic View caught up with the midfielder to hear how the Hoops are faring this year, and her hopes for the rest of the 2019 campaign.

You joined Celtic in 2018. Have you now fully adjusted to life in Glasgow?

Celtic made me an offer, and asked if I wanted to come over and play for them, that’s how it all started. I had to sort a few things before leaving Germany, but I was delighted to move over. I think Glasgow is great. It took me a little while to get going in a new city, but the people over here are so welcoming. I really like being here and I really hope I can continue to stay and live here a lot longer.
