The French shone at their home tour in the Eighties

Stephen Roche’s win in 1987. Especially the iconic commentary when Roche appears through the fog. I’ve not missed a single Tour since. John Fox

Earliest memory of a Grand Tour would probably be the TdF in 1983 – seeing snippets on Saturday morning’s World of Sport on ITV. Phil Anderson was the hero of the English-speaking cycling world and Laurent Fignon was the coolest with his specs and headband. Dean Laccohee
